About Us

For over 50 years, Williams Lumber has served the lumber and hardware customers in the Hudson Valley and Catskill regions. Since 1946, Williams Lumber has expanded from one store to a current total of six stores.

Stan Williams began Williams Lumber back in 1946, when he purchased the Gibson Lumber Company on East Market Street in Rhinebeck, NY. In 1963, the company expanded to two locations when it purchased the Salt Point Supply Company in Salt Point, NY.

In 1968, the existing Rhinebeck store was closed and a brand new lumberyard was constructed north of Rhinebeck on Rte 9. The new building had 5500 sq. ft. of retail space. In 1980, business had grown and it was necessary to renovate the Rhinebeck store and more than doubled it in size to 13,000 sq. ft. of retail space. In 1985, only five years later, the business had grown so rapidly that the Rhinebeck store was again renovated and doubled in size to 28,000 sq. ft.

In 1989, Williams added a third location when it purchased the Greenport Building Supply Company south of Hudson, NY. The store was completely renovated and expanded. From 1990-92, the Rhinebeck store was completely renovated and re-merchandised to the current condition. New fixturing was added, and a great deal of additional inventory provided a tremendous selection of merchandise for our customers. The store is now the largest independent home center in the area.

In 1993, Williams jumped to five locations when it purchased both Bry Dain Lumber Company stores, a large store in Hopewell Junction, NY, and a small store in Highland, NY. The larger store in Hopewell Junction was completely renovated and expanded to its current size. The smaller store in Highland could not be expanded and was closed in 1995.

The Williams Lumber Family

In 1998, Williams went back to five locations when it purchased the Tannersville Supply Company in Tannersville, NY. The store was quickly expanded to almost 7000 sq. ft. and renovated to become a beautiful addition to Williams growing family of stores. In 1999, Williams expanded again to six locations when it added a new store in Red Hook, NY. This new store, known as Williams Express, is only about 2900 sq. ft, and became Williams first "hardware only" store. It is a bright new store with an amazing amount of inventory neatly held in a small space.

In 2002, Sandy Williams, Owner and President of Williams Lumber and Home Centers, was named "Dutchess County's 2002 Business Person of the Year" by the Poughkeepsie Journal.

For the past 30 years, Williams has challenged himself to provide quality service to his customers. Williams says: "We are committed to providing excellent service at very competitive prices."
