Kim Williams of Williams shares how Woodluxe by Benjamin Moore protects and enhances your home’s exterior with lasting beauty.
To me, exterior painting and staining projects aren’t just about making things look nice. They’re about protecting what matters most — your home. It’s about adding warmth, a touch of color, and making sure your home stands strong through every season, just like you do.
Why Williams Sells Woodluxe

At Williams, we believe our customers deserve only the best — that’s why we proudly carry Benjamin Moore. They don’t just make exceptional products like Woodluxe; they also choose to sell exclusively through independent, locally owned retailers like us. When you buy Woodluxe at Williams, you’re not just choosing a premium exterior stain — you’re supporting a family business that’s been part of this community for generations.
The Right Tone Makes All the Difference

Before you dive into staining or painting, it’s important to think about what you want your project to look like when it’s done. Are you hoping to showcase the natural grain of cedar or redwood? Or are you looking to give your deck a full refresh with a rich, solid color?
Colors & Finishes
Whether you’re going for barely-there color or a bold, modern finish, Williams and Woodluxe has you covered. Here’s a quick breakdown of their finishes:
- Translucent – Shows off every detail of the wood grain with just a whisper of color
- Semi-Transparent – Soft color that still lets the grain shine through
- Semi-Solid – Adds more color, less grain visibility
- Solid – Full coverage for a fresh, even look
- Ultra-Flat Solid – A matte finish for a rustic, natural feel
With over 3,500 color options (yes, really), there’s something for every style — from natural, earthy tones to bold, modern shades. Not quite sure which finish is right for your wood type or outdoor space? That’s what we’re here for. Stop by your local Williams store and chat with our helpful, knowledgeable associates. We’re always happy to help you compare finishes, and find the ideal match for your project.
Water-Based vs. Oil-Based – Which Should You Choose?

This choice depends a bit on your preferences and your project. Here’s a quick guide:
- Water-Based: Dries quickly, is easier to clean up, and has a lower odor and eco-friendly formula. Available in Translucent, Semi-Transparent, Semi-Solid, Solid, and Ultra Flat Solid opacities.
- Oil-Based: While not available in all finishes, oil-based stain applies evenly with just one coat, soaks into the wood deeply, has low-VOC, and offers a rich, luxurious finish. Available in Translucent, Semi-Transparent, and Semi-Solid opacities.
Today’s oil-based stains—like Woodluxe’s—are designed to be safer and more pleasant to work with than older versions. So it really comes down to how you like to work and what kind of finish you’re after.
Pro Tips for Outdoor Wood Care
Before you grab a brush, make sure your surface is ready:
- Clean off dirt and mildew
- Let the wood dry fully
- Sand rough spots and remove fibers
Once you’ve finished your staining project, keep it looking great by:
- Sweeping and rinsing your deck regularly
- Touching up high-traffic spots before they show wear
- Refreshing the finish every couple of years (translucent stains may need it more often)
